Grilled Spiced Lamb Kebabs with a garlicky tzatziki

Is it a kofta? Is it a kebab? Whatever it is, we know it’s off the charts delicious, especially when you add garlicky tzatziki, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, and lashings of chili sauce wrapped up in warm flatbread.

Sautéing the onions and garlic before adding them to the meat makes these kebabs extra juicy and succulent.  The bonus is they only take about 6 minutes to cook. Next time I need to remember to double the recipe because they were demolished in seconds!!

  • 500g Lamb mince
  • Oil for cooking
  • 1 Onion chopped fine
  • 6 cloves garlic crushed
  • Small bunch coriander chopped
  • ¼ Cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsps Cumin
  • 2 tsps Coriander
  • 2 tsps Paprika
  • 1½ Ground ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Cayenne pepper
  • 1½ tsps Salt
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • Chilli sauce
  • 1 cup yoghurt
  • ½ Cup cucumber, seeds removed, cut into small squares
  • 6 Mint leaves, rolled into a cigar shape, cut fine
  • 1 Clove garlic minced
  • ½ Lemon juiced

  1. If using bamboo skewers, soak for 15 mins in boiling water to prevent burning
  2. Sauté onions and garlic on low-med heat until translucent, cool, set aside
  3. Mix lamb mince with spices, coriander, breadcrumbs, and onion mixture, but do not over mix, or kebabs may fall apart
  4. Divide mixture into 8 and shape around skewers slightly flat
  5. Refrigerate 30 mins if you have time
  6. Mix ingredients for tzatziki, set aside
  7. Heat grill pan medium, add oil so well-greased
  8. Cook kebabs 3 mins each side until charred on the outside but still soft on the inside, set aside on kitchen towels.
  9. Serve in flatbreads with tzatziki, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, and chilli sauce.
